Job Description

This is a full time seasonal position .  Marine Science Camp Counselor is responsible for the supervision and safety of all campers for overnight camps at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station. Primary job duties include: directing and supervising summer campers day and night throughout their stay; planning/executing small and large group activities during free time and evenings; and fostering a fun and welcome environment for campers. Camp Counselors will also live, learn, and teach in the dynamic ecosystems of a barrier island; receive training in Environmental Interpretation and Education; and gain experience creating educational curricula for ages 8-18.

Start Date:  Flexible, ASAP

End Date:  August 5, 2022

Pay: $880 bi-weekly, room and board provided

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and wellbeing of campers at all times
• Supervise campers during their free time, evenings, overnight, during meals, and between activities
• Act as a role model for campers
• Plan and execute the final camp of the summer (3-night camp for 10-12 year olds)
• Plan and lead free time and evening activities for campers, including campfire, ice cream socials, tie dye, game night, and Citizen Science night
• Assist with camper issues such as homesickness, disagreements, behavior, etc
• Co-teach classes with field station educators
• General program maintenance

Requirements

Requirements

• 19 or older by start date
• Have or be working towards a degree in education, outdoor recreation, environmental education, biology, marine science, oceanography, environmental science, or other related field
• Must enjoy working with children of all ages
• Valid driver's license
• CPR and First Aid
